Hawt Schtuff

How hot is hawt?

The Frou and The Toe hit the road.

We took a road trip to KL last weekend and I’m still in recovery mode. Our road trip started late afternoon on Friday. The Frou was particularly chipper and I was tired by the time we reached the Tuas checkpoint. And we had not even left the bloody country.

The events that made The Toe tired (in a very good way):

1. The Frou filling in my white card for entry to M’sia –

The Frou: What’s your place of birth? MANDAI ZOO! Hahaha!
The Frou: What’s the place of issue? MANDAI ZOO! Hahaha!
The Frou: What’s your last place of embarkation? How many times do I have to write MANDAI ZOO? Hahaha!
The Toe: *bangs head against steering wheel*

(Imagine this inanity multiplying itself like a mutant virus...)

2. The CAR-raoke sessions – It’s our usual practice to sing along to songs in my sappy-songs-from-the-90s two-disc compilation. Think Tommy Page (whoddat?) and Johnny Hates Jazz (whaddat?). We sang our way into the state of Johor, past the plains of Negri Sembilan and well into Selangor. (I probably got the geography all wrong...)

3. The eating rampage – We started eating once we crossed the Causeway. Our first meal was an alibaba Ramly burger at the rest stop. It was a bit suspect because the Frou’s beef patty was strangely red but we gobbled everything up. We ate nothing but Malaysian cuisine the entire trip – there was no time for fancy food. After zooming to KL, we went to meet the Merry Man at the club where we were fed drinks. Supper was delicious Wong Ah Waw hor-fun, Hokkien noodles and chicken wings from heaven. Hunger is when all conversation comes to a halt.

4. The climbing – We climbed hard (by our feeble standards) at Camp 5. It was such a refreshing change from the Sg climb gyms. There is a tendency to be short-tempered and irritable at the Sg climb gyms because we are obnoxious. However, at Camp 5 we were placid and docile because there were no idiots to annoy us.

5. The hawt springs and Malaysian hospitality – the Merry Man took us for a joy ride to the hawt springs in Perak to par-teh. When the Frou showed me the website for the hawt springs, I was a bit frightened. Apparently it holds the Guiness Book of Records for boiling the most number of eggs in the hawt springs – all frigging 50, 000 of them eggs. (What did they do with the eggs??) There is also a Giant Octopus Slide. We (un)fortunately did not get to see any of the above zzz...

The Malaysians know how to throw a damn good par-teh. MM brought his deejay console complete with speakers and turntables. *doosh doosh doosh* The other hospitable Msians brought along Lee Kum Kee chicken, porridge with chicken drumstick, Ampang yong tau foo, big-ass bao as big as my face (I know because the Frou stuck it in my face), mojito ingredients and lots of other par-teh paraphernalia. *looks at food baby belly*

We were well fed; we passed out despite the doosh doosh doosh and we were well fed again when we woke up. There was lurve...Malaysia, truly Asia.

My new climbing shoes!
