Snakes and Ladders

I saw a dead snake during my run today. It was a tiny snake, barely the width of my pinkie. Maybe it was still a baby. For some inexplicable reason, I was sad when I saw it. It looked so forlorn (and dead) lying on the tarmac. There was this sudden immense sadness that rose from my belly and formed a horrible lump in my throat. Perhaps it had to do with Grandma feeling poorly and my sister buying her one of those books for her to chronicle her life in. Perhaps it had to do with the emotional crap that has been rearing its ugly head. Perhaps it had to with the damn pre-menstrual hormones.

Somehow the sweat and the tears tasted the same.

For what it’s worth, I also saw a big ass monitor lizard ambling by.
